Community Health Opportunity Program Dinner (CHOP)

What is CHOP?

CHOP is a free community dinner on the last Wednesday of each month at the Lowell Senior Center. CHOP builds connections among neighbors. Each gathering is a chance to unite the diverse ethnic groups in Lowell’s diverse neighborhoods, bringing attendees together to enjoy a meal together, socialize, and discuss topics of concern and interest. CHOP is also a community resource. Local health agencies, cultural groups, and civic organizations often co-host these dinners and help spark engaging conversations. CHOP was originally funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and focused on health and nutrition. CHOP as an acronym for Community Health Opportunity Program. CHOP’s mission has expanded over the years to address issues and concerns of interest to the Lowell community.

Beneficiary Outreach

The CHOP Dinner is a regular monthly feature of CBA's extensive service network and has an attendance of between 100-200 community members at each dinner. After 7 years, CHOP events are well-known in the Acre neighborhood, and with CBA’s thousands of members and supporters. CBA markets CHOP through our social media, flyers at local businesses, and through our partnerships with other community organizations. Attendees can access light childcare, translation, and the physical space.
